An Ode to Lash Tinting

There is something so unnecessary yet so luxurious about eyelash tinting.

I began tinting my eyelashes at around age 17, when I was a senior in high school. A Benefit Cosmetics store opened up in my town, and the thought of having darker eyelashes for four to six weeks was just super alluring.

Since then, I have been semi-regularly, semi-sporadicly tinting my eyelashes at the exact same Benefit store. One time I tried to get them done at a place in Winston-Salem, and tbh it was a complete waste of time and money.

I am a creature of habit.

In college, it was nice because I could come home for weekends and breaks and spend a quick 20 minutes getting them tinted, and then I was on my way. I lived at home for a year after graduating, and that was nice because I could get them done whenever I wanted.

Now, however, I live in a new city in a new state and I have not had the time or energy to actually get them done. I did find a Benefit Brow Bar in a department store in the Southpark Mall...so there is hope.

Is it necessary? No. Is it something I like? Yes, for so many reasons.

I like sitting in a chair in front of everyone while someone  globs on layers of vaseline and dye onto my eyelids and eyelashes. I like when I get compliments immediately after about how my lashes are "unreal" (I'm pretty proud of them, not gonna lie). I've been getting eyelash tint long enough to know that the formula has changed, and instead of what used to be 14 minutes of cringing while the dye stings my eyelids, it's seven minutes of relaxing to girly music.

Most of all, I'm freaking obsessed with the aftermath. For the next five weeks, my normally blonde and light brown lashes are jet black, and are visibly touching my brow bone.

For reference, I've included my before and after photos. Feel honored that I have shown y'all my un-retouched, completely bare-naked face, without concealer or mascara.

I repeat. Without having ANY MASCARA on, this is the effect that lash tinting has.

Pretty crazy, right?

Also, notice something different about my eyebrows? I got them waxed and tinted as well.

It's the little things.

  1. Looks great! Have you ever tried a lash lift? I'm super intrigued by them but nervous. xMHK
