The Best Heat Protectants for Your Hair

In my longstanding effort to grow my hair to Rapunzel (or at least Blake Lively) lengths, I have been extra careful which products I use to protect my hair from heat damage. The combination of coloring my hair and heat styling it almost every day is pretty damaging, and I'd really rather not have split ends.

My hair is the most natural it's ever been in terms of color, and it's so much healthier since I stopped bleaching it to oblivion. But, my natural hair texture is very curly, which is not really want I want for my every day look. I blow dry my hair every time I wash it (so around every other day), and then I curl it once it's dry. I know it would be better to airdry and then curl, but it loses its volume and looks really unhealthy.

My solution is to pile on the heat protectants while it's damp, and then use a myriad of different deep conditioners and treatments a couple times a week. I honestly don't know how people can style their hair without heat protectant - I feel like they're great for taming my curls, as well as giving my hair shine and smoothness.

If I could exclusively use Oribe and Bumble and bumble products, I would. I had a sample size of the Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream and I loved it. I really do need to pick up a normal-size version, but Oribe tends to be a little pricey. It's a heat protectant that evens out moisture levels while sealing split ends. Plus it smells so good.

For Bumble and bumble products, I love their Blow Cry Cremes. I use the Repair or All-Style creme almost every day, but they also have a Straight creme - I never wear my hair straight, so I've actually never tried it. The Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer is also a fan favorite, since it doubles as a Heat and UV protector. I haven't tried the Save the Day Daytime Protective Repair Fluid, but I am very tempted. It supposedly repairs hair and split ends and protects from heat and UV damage...so ideal for my hair-growth plan.

I've only been to Drybar once, but I really loved the products they used before blowdrying my hair. The Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant is great, and the packaging is so cute.

If you're looking for an inexpensive heat protectant, the Tresemm√© Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray is the best. I have used this product consistently for years and it's honestly the best if you're not looking to spend a lot of money. Another great drugstore product is the ProMend Heat Protecting Mist from Nexxus. I always end up loving everything I try from Nexxus.

What heat protectants do y'all like? I'm always looking to try new products!

Happy Halloween!
