How I Organize My Closet

My mom came to Charlotte on Saturday night to start working on decorating my apartment. I got a job in a different state, had to find an apartment and actually move in the span of 10 days at the beginning of the summer, so the actual preparation process was extremely fast.

While my apartment was super cute to begin with, it definitely needed some sprucing up. There was a lot of white space on the walls that needed to be covered!

So, this is the first post of my apartment decoration series. This is going to be a looong road.

Since everything is still being place and I still have some items to purchase, let's begin with how I organize my closet.

My closet is a little weird in that it's in my bathroom. It's huge, don't get me wrong, but you walk through my bathroom to get into my walk-in closet. I keep my dresses, skirts, tops, pants, sweaters, coats, scarves, bags, and shoes in this closet.

That was a mouthful.

Everything else, like t-shirts, workout clothes, bras/undies/socks and sweatshirts are in my chest of drawers in my bedroom. But that's whole other post.

As you can see, I'm really into organizing by color. Dresses, shirts, sweaters, jeans...they have to be color organized. If we're being honest, I really only have black and white clothing, but it's a work in progress!

My mother sent my fall and winter clothes down to Charlotte a couple of weeks ago, but I finally got around to organizing them when I was in power-apartment decorating mode this past weekend.

This also gave me a great opportunity to go through everything and give away some clothes that I 1. don't wear and 2. don't like. If I haven't worn it in the past year, bye bye! Btw. Still on the hunt for casual fall dresses. It's so depressing.

Sweaters are on the shelf above dresses, jeans and scarves are above tops and coats.

I have two shoe organizers from The Container Store to hold my flats and heels, and a boot rack for most of my boots. I put my summer shoes that aren't Jack Rogers in a container so they don't ruin my seasonal organizational flow. I also have my summer/brightly printed scarves, shorts, and swimwear with my summer shoes.

Currently looking for other boot shapers for my over the knee boots. To be continued.

So the first two walls are for clothes, and the third is for my laundry basket, luggage, bags and various apartment-necessities (drying rack, air mattress, vacuum, etc). All purses and tote bags are hung on S-hooks, and my luggage is on the shelf above them.

I also have a cork board...but don't really have anything yet to display. We'll get there!

I also have my unimpressive amount of long necklaces on command hooks in my closet. Currently still organizing my jewelry so we'll see if I actually keep them in here.

Well, there you have it. My closet in all it's glory. The size is amazing and I like that I have room to keep everything organized and in plain sight. The actual clothes are a work in progress, but in general I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday! I will be posting a lot of interior decorating and apartment things over the next few weeks, so get ready!
