Every Essential Makeup Brush and their Purpose

If you're like me and watch YouTube makeup tutorials in your spare time, finding the right makeup brush for every look is tricky. I've tried using brush palette bundles from Sephora, but I find that I either don't like every brush, or I don't use every brush.

So, I've compiled a list of my most essential makeup brushes and their uses, complete with my favorite brands and specific products. It's hard to get confused when a lot of brushes look exactly the same!

While I have 12 essential brush types included in this post, there are so many more tools you can use for your look - these are just the ones I've come across that get the job done. Also, I definitely don't use all these brushes every day. They're great just to have so you can be ready for any makeup look!

Precision Brush Spot concealing, lining the eyes, and applying lip products

Angled Liner Brush Lining the eyes, defining brows

Eyebrow Brush Defining brows

Crease Brush Blending eyeshadow

All-over Eyeshadow Brush Applying eyeshadow

Concealer Brush Color correcting under-eye circles, spot concealing

Lash & Brow Comb Separating eyelashes, taming eyebrows

Highlighter Brush Applying powder highlighter

Face Brush Applying foundation, applying bronzer

Contour Brush Applying bronzer

Blush Brush Applying blush

Kabuki Brush Applying powder, blending product

On a daily basis, I use an angled liner brush from Sephora to apply my eyeliner, a concealer brush to fix my under-eye circles, a kabuki brush for my bronzer, and a blush brush for (shocking!) my blush.

My favorite brands are Real Techniques and Sephora. You can find Real Techniques at Ulta and Target, and they're definitely the choice if you're looking for a good quality yet inexpensive makeup brush. I've wanted to try Sigma Beauty, since they're featured in so many Youtube makeup tutorials, but I haven't yet.

If you've ever had a Naked Palette from Urban Decay, their double-ended eyeshadow brushes included in the palette are perfect. They're the only eyeshadow brushes I use. Also, the brand Ecotools has really good brushes - their kabuki brush (that I picked up at CVS) is my all-time favorite.

What tools are y'alls favorite?

Have a great Wednesday!
