Labor Day Weekend on Kiawah Island

This past Labor Day weekend I drove down to Kiawah Island to spend a mini-vacation with my parents. I have been going to Kiawah basically my entire life, but it's been a hot minute since the last time I visited. 

Most of my friends have gone on weekend trips this summer, but since I moved in at the end of June, I wanted to spend as much time in my new city as possible. You know when you get to the point where you just need a couple days in a different place? I had hit that point. My parents were going to spend a week on Kiawah anyway, so I decided to invite myself for four days to get out of the area and spend some time at the beach. 

Did y'all know it's only 3 1/2 hours from Charlotte to Charleston? 

Aka, I'm going to find every excuse I can to make as many trips as I can. 

I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning to make the drive south, and ended up making a pit stop in Charleston. Did I stop just to get pictures of rainbow row? Yes, no shame. 

I’ve decided that when I find a husband, we will move to Charleston as soon as possible. Although I’ve been going my entire life to the Charleston / Kiawah area, I’m an avid viewer of Southern Charm and I can honestly say it’s only furthered my obsession. 

I originally talked about my love for this skort in this post (which really shows how much time has passed since I last updated the blog, sorry folks), and let me tell y'all, it does not disappoint. I am obsessed. Too bad it's the end of summer and I literally only wore it once (oops), but I will definitely be keeping my eye on any Lilly skorts in the future.

This skort is tricky to pair with a top, however. I originally wanted to wear it with this top from ASOS, but there was a shipping fiasco last week that prevented me from actually getting the tank on time. I also think that the Dusk Racer Back Tank in white or navy would be super cute. I ended up pairing it with this top from Forever 21 (which is now unavailable).

For those of y’all who don’t know, Kiawah is a small island outside of Charleston that’s home to the beach, the Sanctuary, and a million golf courses. When I was little we used to rent a place for a week or two, but life has taken over and now we just stay at the island’s main hotel, The Sanctuary. It is unreal. It’s the perfect place for vacations, and I can’t tell y’all how many weddings I’ve seen on the lawn. It’s driving (or biking) distance from a little shopping center called Freshfields Village, which includes shops like Lilly Pulitzer, Vineyard Vines, and Bluemercury. 

I've worn this outfit probably twice a week for the past month. It's getting a little depressing. 

I found this top during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale earlier this summer, and it's honestly the perfect cami for going out, going to dinner, and I even wear it to work. It comes in probably 10 colors (of course I chose black), and I tend to pair it with a pair of white jeans.

But let's talk about these earrings. They're a little hard to see in the picture above, but I wear them all the time and honestly am so happy I found them! Thank you, Baublebar. I've obviously posted about statement earrings in the past, but now I finally have bought a pair that 1. don't hurt 2. go with everything 3. didn't break the bank. I really wanted a pair of hot pink tassel earrings, but black was the only one in stock and I'm actually very happy I chose them instead. 

Unfortunately, it’s hit me that summer is over. My tan will fade, I will have to start wearing more than just a t-shirt and shorts on a daily basis, and soon it will be Christmas. I have just spent the past four days laying on the beach, and now I'm back at work. This fall will be great (honestly, who doesn't love fall?) but I expect to make a lot of trips back down to Charleston in the future!

  1. Oh my gosh, I love Kiawah! The Sanctuary is my favorite and I'm so jealous you got to spend Labor Day there (my family and I typically go for Father's Day).
