beauty + (updated) summer makeup routine

Happy Tuesday, ladies.

Time to update your makeup for the summer!

When I was writing this post, I was under the impression that my makeup routine is fairly low maintenance. I don't wear foundation, I do the same eye makeup every single day of my life, and the only thing I actually put some effort into is my eyebrow makeup.

Boy, was I wrong.

While I may not physically wear that much, I use a ridiculous amount of products that I've come to question if they're even worth it. Of course, I don't use every single product in this post every single day, but Lord when taking pictures for this post, I was wondering if it was ever going to end.

That being said, here are the makeup products that I use regularly during the summer.

I use a majority of these tools every time I do makeup. I used to use the Too Faced Kabuki Brush a lot more, but recently I've acquired an actual angled contouring brush to replace it. When I wear BB cream, I apply it with the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush (pretty unsure if it's actually blurring, but I still love love love this brush).

Each Naked palette comes with the best double-ended brush that I use any time I'm wearing eyeshadow. I use one Sephora angled liner brush for my eyeliner, and one for my eyebrows. Concealer is applied with a concealer brush (shocking), and I believe I just got it from a brush kit from Target.

I used to have a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, but I replaced it with a Lancôme curler instead. Can't really tell a difference but I definitely use this every day.

My favorite thing about my skin is my abundance of freckles, particularly from Spring Break to about September; that's when they really pop. In an effort to make them as prominent as possible, I really use more skincare products than foundation/powder/etc.

I use Benefit's Instant Comeback Facial Serum first, then Clinique moisturizer and eye cream every day. A majority of the time, this is all I wear.

If I'm really trying hard, I add Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer (my all-time favorite primer from Benefit mysteriously disappeared from my dorm room and I'm still depressed about it) and a mix of Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Medium and Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector. I can use the Garnier BB cream all year round because it's so sheer, but I only use the Smashbox version when I have a tan. It's definitely heavier than the Garnier, so it's saved for actual events rather than just going out and about.

If I lost half my body weight, I would still have chipmunk cheeks. I have no resemblance of cheekbones in the slightest, therefore I've started to get into the absolute bare minimum of contouring to at least attempt to create the illusion my face has angles other than curves. Unfortunately, the bronzer I use to contour (Rimmel's Sun Shimmer) is discontinued so I really don't know what I'm going to do when it runs out (sob, thankfully I only use a small amount and the container is huge). I also broke the actual powder, so apologies for how messy it looks.

I've always been a huge fan of Too Faced's Sun Bunny, and I use it occasionally, but it's a little too shimmery for what I've been going for lately. I'm also pretty tan right now, and it's not dark enough for my skin tone (#unemployedbythepoolproblems).

In terms of blush, I'll use it if I'm doing the whole shebang with bronzer and BB cream. My fave is Rocketeur by Benefit

I'm searching for the perfect highlighter (I have my eye on BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector...can't decide between pressed or liquid, holla at me if y'all have a preference). Currently I use Benefit Watt's Up and it's good enough but not exactly what I'm looking for.

My top three mascaras of all time (that carry me through each season/year) are Benefit's Bad Gal Lash, Too Faced's Better than Sex, and Urban Decay's Perversion

(Sidenote: why are all the mascaras' names so scandy?)

I really need to either choose one mascara and live with it, or just bite the bullet and get normal-sized versions of all three. It's hard when you really really have an obsession with love mascara. If I'm ever trapped on a deserted island, you can be sure the beauty product I'll have with me is mascara.

In terms of brow products, I ran out of Gimme Brow and have yet to restock it so I only use Anastasia's Dipbrow in Taupe. Literally the exact color of eyebrows and its amazing. I've said this before and I'll say it again: filling in brows is a total game changer.

Honestly Dipbrow is the be-all-end-all brow product in my opinion. It's long lasting (not waterproof, but close enough) and it's super easy to apply. I have fairly thick and fairly even brows, so I just use my angled liner brush (I think it was included in a Sephora brush kit) to fill in sparse areas.

If I don't get enough sleep, I'll use Erase Paste by Benefit in Light to cover up dark circles. It's really thick and long-lasting, so I try to just use a small amount where I really need it.

Last but definitely not least, I use the Naked 2 palette every time I apply makeup. Depending on my mood, I'll go bare-lidded or a mix of Bootycall and Half Baked. No matter what, I use Blackout as a liner (thanks again, angled liner brush) on my outer corner "v."

Phew!

That was a lot.

But hopefully not too much.

I really like makeup and talking about makeup and applying makeup (I think I did everyone in my sorority's makeup for the past 4 years) so apologies if I rambled.

Feel free to comment with product suggestions (mainly highlighters) because I'm always looking to add more to my makeup collection!
