what to wear + brunch

Being the basic white girl that I am, brunch is a frequent pasttime in which my friends and I recap our nights and plan our shenanigans for the following days.

I love brunch. I could eat breakfast food all day, every day.

In my opinion, there are two routes you can go when enjoying your basic bitch brunch: boozy or hungover. Boozy brunch, aka brunch with bottomless mimosas to kickstart your day, is more of a Saturday type thing, where you're still excited about more events to come that weekend. Hungover brunch is so a Sunday thing. Pretty self-explanatory.

Click read more to see what my outfit picks are for both brunch options!

Boozy is when you dress cute, like a million instas will be posted (let's be real, we all do it).

Off-the-shoulder Recent obsession with off-the-shoulder tops, dresses, rompers...all of them. Pretty much half of what I've pinned recently has been off-the-shoulder everything. This top from Madewell (shown above) is so stinkin' cute, especially when paired with white jeans.

Strappy sandals Still waiting for my own pair of gladiator sandals. Revolve always has an amazing selection. But, if you're not ready to take the plunge into the aggressively-strapped gladiators, a pair of simple strappy sandals works great. Just found Lilly sandals that are pineapple inspired (take a shot every time I mention pineapples on this blog and you'll be dead)!!!

Wrap necklaces I've professed my love for long, beaded wrap necklaces before, and they're a great accessory for brunch. I've recently discovered Boho Beads, a jewelry brand in Raleigh, NC and basically every necklace they sell is prime for brunch (and any other trendy occasion). If not, just make your own (which is usually what I do, thanks Michaels).

Floppy hat Still have yet to wear my floppy hat....I swear I will at some point....

Rompers (duh) I really don't think I need to explain the perfection that is a romper. Perfect for brunch. Literally perfect. I like Revolve's selection, as well as Lilly's (sometimes) and Shopbop.

Betchy sunglasses I've been wearing aggressively large sunglasses lately and they just crack me up. My most recent favorite pair are HUGE and very, very round, almost mod. You can't go wrong with aviators either, especially if they're reflective.

Flowy shorts Flowy shorts are great because you can pair them with so much and still feel crazy comfortable. I like patterned ones best, especially if they're really colorful.

Now onto the flip side of brunch...

one | two | three | four | five | six | seven | eight | nine | ten | eleven | twelve

This is weird, but my best friend and I tend to get Chinese food for our hungover brunches. There is no better cure than sesame chicken.

(TBT to when I ate Chinese food, now it's just salads for days)

This type of brunch requires a different type of uniform. Less color, less cute pictures being taken of you, more pictures being taken of food.

Comfort with a capital C Typically, if you're having a hungover brunch, the goal is to be as comfortable as possible. Oversize Free People tees (redundant, I know) and Lulu leggings are the main players. My inspirations for life Natasha Oakley and Devin Brugman just recently launched their own line of athletic wear (including leggings, number one shown above) and it's great for brunch, then sweating off brunch at the gym.

Betchy sunglasses, part two Sunglasses, again preferably oversized, preferably reflective are great for hiding morning-after makeup (don't lie, we all do it). Just be sure to use Benefit's Ooh La Lift under-eye miracle worker.

Ironic sweatshirt There was also a sweatshirt that said "Hungover" on it, but let's not be too obvious. Thanks Private Party for making my day, yet again.

Baseball cap I've started to clean out my closet at home and I've realized I own probably thirty baseball caps. Why I have collected so many over the past five years or so I have no idea, however I am a firm believer in the power of a baseball cap on a less-than-ideal-looking day.

Water Bottle I'm currently in the market for a cool new water bottle, because right now I'm using a hot pink Camelback with a large decal of Wake's Demon Deacon on it. Great for working out, but it's ugly as sin. Comment with pretty water bottle options, pleeeease.

Sneakers and slip ons I'm lazy and usually wear my Tory slippers in public (sorry not sorry but kind of sorry since I'm 22 and not 16). That being said, a chicer and more socially acceptable option is a cool pair of sneakers or slip-on equivalent. J. Crew has a good selection, same with Revolve and Nordstrom. Think of Puma's when they were relevant.

I wish y'all luck on all your future brunch-related endeavors.

On another note, today marks my first day of the Tone It Up Bikini Series Challenge. Technically it's already in week 5 (if I started on the correct date), but my abundance of time gives me the option to start whenever I want! I'll let y'all know how it goes!
