what to wear + beach weekend

Okay guys, update on yesterday's wax.

By the grace of God I am unscathed! It wasn't painless, let's be real here, but it was a whole lot better than when I ended up like Khloe K when Kourtney attempted to give her a wax.

If any of y'all are in the Winston-Salem area, I highly recommend going to Jamie East Esthetics.  A girl in my sorority recommended her and I cannot praise her enough. Kinda salty I just found out about Jamie since I only have 40 days left in North Carolina.

However, I am now bikini ready. Meaning, beach weekend ready. Pro is that I get to get off campus for a few days with my friends, con is that it's supposed to be cold. Will I even wear a bikini? Was the wax worth it? To be determined.

Beach weekend is our equivalent of a lot of southern school's "formal." We go to a beach for a weekend (obviously), and it usually involves some kind of "formal" (aka wearing an elevated version of a sundress and wedges). Underclassman girls paint coolers for their dates, while seniors are too far into senioritis to do anything for their date.

I'll be heading over to Myrtle Beach - the classiest of beaches - on Thursday afternoon. It's my second to last time going to Myrtle Beach, hopefully ever, considering there's not much around besides the beach, a couple of bars and a late night taco hut.

I have 40 days left to be the truest of college students, and I'm going to take advantage of it.

Casual "Going Out" Top There will be no going out, further than the house we're staying in, but it's a nice change from the usual bikini and tank top.

Sunglasses I don't think I could make a what to wear post without including reflective lens sunglasses.

Printed Shorts I think I have at least three pair of shorts from Julie Billiart. They're sold at a local boutique and are really inexpensive for something that gets a ton of use. I've already talked about my love for fun, flowy shorts because they're such an easy thing to throw on.

Printed Bikini It's a fun weekend, so wear a fun bikini. I like leaf printed bikinis over animal print...much more tropical and less questionably trashy.

Fun Drinkware A lot of girls paint chug-a-lugs; I might bring a pineapple cup instead.

Fun One Piece HOW STINKIN' CUTE IS THIS?? I've been really getting into the ridiculous one pieces lately (see me in Cancun) and if I wasn't lacking funds and had more than one day to order it, I would totally be wearing this one-piece for beach weekend. Thankfully post exams (again, in Myrtle, have mercy) is in May, giving me time to order and time to save.

Sandals Preferably not one's that you're super attached to. Ya never know.

White Tee Always pack a white tee no matter where you go. I just bought the Free People tee shown in this post and I've already worn it twice this week (#noshame).

Date Function Dress I have a BW formal on Saturday (I think?) so it's necessary to bring a dress or romper that's appropriate, yet ~fun n flirty~ for the occasion. Usually BW formal's (at least for Wake) aren't very fancy which is a plus. I'm believe I'm wearing a hot pink romper...or a navy and black maxi. We shall see.

Tank Top I now realize there are three products mentioned in this post that feature pineapples. I love them like Kanye loves Kanye. However, an oversize tank is ideal for a coverup that you don't mind getting a little gross (drinks spilled, sand everywhere, typical Myrtle conditions).

Denim Shorts From now until August, they will be necessary.

Until next time...

  1. I'd love to read more of your recommendations in Winston-Salem. I grew up in Winston, but moved away for college and my first job. Looking to move back this year and I'm curious to know what I should be on the look out for.
